COLLIES AND KIDS:   Perfect Together

"Outside of the maternity floor, hospitals are usually not a fun place to be.   If you find yourself in a hospital, it most likely will be an extremely stressful experience, and for a child it's all that and more.
Hospitals and doctors can fix your pain, cure your ills, and tend to your physical ailments, but they need some help to soothe the soul.  That's where the Collie comes in.  What child can resist the soft look, warm eyes, and the fluffy cuddly coat of a Collie?
Therapy dogs bring to the hospital a sense of normalcy to an otherwise chaotic situation.  They interrupt a stressful day and divert that time to a much more pleasant experience.
After a few visits, your dog will develop a following.  Both staff and patients start looking forward to your arrival, and will plan their day to ensure they get to visit.  The bond and friendship your Collie will develop with patients and staff will be amazing.
CH. Riverrun's Jump for Joy, or "Jump" as she is affectionately known, is our very special therapy dog.  Jump visits a children's hospital in New Jersey every Thursday for several hours and is on call for anyone who may need a special visit.  Jump visits five floors at the children's hospital, but spends most of her time on the oncology floor.  Many of the children are there long-term and Jump has formed a special bond with many of them.  Pictured is Jump with her best friend Emily Aleida.

P.S. - A very serious side effect will most likely overwhelm you.  You will have a much clearer perspective of life and know your Collie has made one kid's life a little bit better."
